Dr. Bharath Rangarajan has worked in the semiconductor industry for more than 25 years in technology development, manufacturing, marketing, strategy, and business development.
He began his career at Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) as a lithographic process technologist where he developed several generations of flash memory technologies, including developing and implementing the first computationally enhanced imaging technology into AMD production. He was then responsible for product marketing for flash memory – one of AMD’s most profitable product lines. He has served as chief of staff to the CEO and as Corporate VP, responsible for strategy and corporate development, where he architected and drove a series of major strategic initiatives and transactions that transformed the company from a consumer desktop processor company to a provider of high-end data center technologies to Fortune 500 companies. Bharath was responsible for establishing strategic direction and relationships that resulted in revenue growth ($2B in 3 years), IP sales ($500M), vendor financing ($1B) and equity sales and debt repurchase ($1B). He led major transactions, including the $5.6B purchase of ATI, the spin-off of Spansion into a new company, and the $10B formation and spin-off of GLOBALFOUNDRIES. He also played key roles in a historic anti-trust litigation (AMD vs Intel, which was settled with a $1.25B payment to AMD).
Dr. Rangarajan has a B. Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India, a Ph.D. from Michigan State University, and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley. He currently serves as an advisor and mentor to start ups. He earned the prolific inventor award at AMD and is an author / coauthor /co-inventor on over 100 patents and publications. Several of his patents were at the heart of a successful patent infringement litigation.
